Robotics and STEM
Robotics is one of the clearest ways to make STEM practical. It turns math, physics, software, design, manufacturing, strategy, and teamwork into something students can see, test, and improve.
The Handras family connection to robotics includes Christina’s involvement with FRC Team 811 and broader family interest in STEM learning, mentorship, and engineering development. For Christina, robotics is where CAD, mechanical design, programming awareness, electrical constraints, deadlines, and team communication become one connected system.
What Robotics Teaches
Section titled “What Robotics Teaches”- Systems thinking
- Mechanical reasoning
- CAD and design constraints
- Design for durability and rapid repair
- Programming and autonomous behavior
- Sensors and feedback loops
- Team communication
- Resilience under deadlines
Why It Matters
Section titled “Why It Matters”Robotics gives students a place to build confidence by doing real work. It also gives mentors and families a way to support practical learning without reducing education to grades alone.
Christina’s robotics story is especially connected to mechanical design. The work asks her to think about how one subsystem affects another, how a CAD model becomes a physical robot, and how a team makes decisions when the clock is running.
